Canelo Alvarez suffered a very high-profile defeat against Dmitry Bivol and since then it seems that the Russian fighter has been occupying his mind.

Most expected Canelo to quite easily beat Bivol but the defeat has since shaken many people’s belief that Canelo is the best around.

The pair are expected to fight again in the near future and the Mexican will have to make sure that he gets revenge if he is to maintain his reputation.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Canelo admitted that he has watched the fight back multiple times to see where he went wrong.

“I’ve seen the fight two or three times, I see that I got tired, I wanted to try to do something, but my body didn’t respond. Nobody likes to lose,” Canelo said.

He is currently in the process of promoting a trilogy with Gennady Golovkin but he revealed that he does still think about Bivol and the fight that he lost.

“I don’t know when, but he wants that (rematch) fight,” Alvarez said.

“I do think about Bivol. It was a very competitive fight in the first round for me, but then I got tired and I think I only won one round after that. And like I said, I lost, but I will have my chance for a rematch.”

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has discussed the rematch and it is expected to be in 2023.

“We sat down with Dmitry Bivol and his team and told him he was going to defend his world championship at about the same time as the Canelo-Golovkin fight in September. After that, he’s going to have a rematch against the Mexican fighter in May,” he said.

Eddy Reynoso, the Mexican’s trainer, said that the first step will be to beat Golovkin and then all eyes will be on the rematch against the Russian.

“It’s not behind us, it’s a fight we lost, but we’re going to look for a rematch next year, we have to prepare ourselves better. The important thing is to beat Golovkin and then look for a rematch,” explained Reynoso.
