This season, the Spotify logo will feature on the front of the Barcelona jersey. Yet, for Sunday’s Clasico against Real Madrid, the audio streaming company will present a novelty.

For the first time in their history, Barcelona will wear the logo of an artist instead of that of their sponsor. The chosen one is the Canadian singer Drake and his characteristic owl logo.

The reason why Barcelona will wear the Drake logo

Just a couple of days before the Clasico kicks off, Barcelona announced through their official website that they will replace their partner’s logo with the artist’s logo for the derby.

“By including Drake‘s logo on the front of the jersey, Barcelona and Spotify aim to celebrate the singer’s milestone of becoming the first artist to achieve 50 billion streams of his songs on the platform,” read Barcelona‘s official website.

As part of this special sponsorship initiative, Xavi Hernandez‘s men will wear a special version of the jersey in the warm-up before Sunday’s match.

It will feature the singer’s name on the back accompanied by the number 50, but with the Spotify logo on the front.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, the famous rapper is a big fan of the NBA franchise Toronto Raptors.

In fact, he stole the spotlight in the 2019 Finals, supporting his team from courtside, when the Raptors went all the way to the NBA glory.

Drake has, though, developed an unwanted relationship in sports for having something of a curse on the teams he throws his support behind.
