The NBA Finals 2022 are very close to start, the series between the Golden State Warriors and the Boston Celtics will define the champion of the 2021-2022 season, however, beyond any result, there is a question that relates both franchises and it is that of their core, the famous “Big 3” that sustain both franchises.

Stephen Curry + Klay Thompson + Draymond Green
It is well known that the Warriors are in their sixth NBA Finals in the last eight years, and that the three players who have been to each of those series for the Larry O’Brien Trophy, they are Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
What’s really interesting is that Curry (7th overall pick in the 2009 Draft), Thompson (11th overall pick in the 2011 Draft) and Green (35th overall pick in the 2012 Draft) were drafted and have played their entire careers in Golden State.
While it is true that at some point Kevin Durant came to this franchise as a star free agent, it is also true that when Steve Kerr’s team first made the Finals in 2015, KD was not part of this set, and he is not part of this set now either, i.e. he was not and is not indispensable.
Jayson Tatum + Jaylen Brown + Marcus Smart
In the case of the Celtics, the plan is extremely similar, as their “Big 3”, consisting of Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart, has returned this glorious franchise to the Finals with elements selected in the Draft precisely by Boston.
Smart (sixth overall pick in the 2014 Draft), Brown (third overall pick in the 2016 Draft) and Tatum (third overall pick in the 2017 Draft) are the stars of this franchise and the latter two are 25 and 24 years old, so the future looks bright.
So while the Celtics are looking to return to the top of the NBA this year, this strategy taken from the Warriors makes not only the present, but the future of this franchise look very optimistic.
