Martin Odegaard reveals reason for Arsenal's recent goal glut

Manchester City and Arsenal played out an underwhelming goalless draw at the Etihad on Sunday, with both teams ultimately dropping points in the Premier League title race.

It was a surprisingly quiet first half between last season’s top two Premier League sides, with neither team able to land a first blow in a game of huge significance in this year’s title race.

The second half was much of the same with chances few and far between, with Liverpool the real winners from Arsenal’s trip to Manchester.

Here is how X users reacted to an anti-climactic clash.

With Liverpool having beaten Brighton earlier in the day, even more pressure rested on the shoulders of the Man City and Arsenal players at the Etihad in Sunday’s late kick-off. Both sides were desperate for all three points and a statement victory in their respective bids to become Premier League champions.

Man City, somewhat unsurprisingly, dominated the opening stages, with Arsenal content holding their deep defensive shape and trying to utilise their counter-attacking potential. However, it made for a a rather flat first half.

Arsenal were unable to capitalise on injuries to Kyle Walker and John Stones during a goalless first half, with Man City’s fitness woes getting even worse during a cagey first half.

Nathan Ake went down injured after just 27 minutes and was replaced by Rico Lewis, with Pep Guardiola cursing his injury luck ahead of the run-in.

The game continued to be unbelievably tight as the minutes ticked away in the second half, with Gabriel Jesus coming closest to opening the scoring against his former side after finding himself inches away from converting Bukayo Saka’s cross.

Erling Haaland was also guilty of being uncharacteristically wasteful at the other end, spurning a chance a late chance after a near-post flick-on from a corner.

In the end, neither side will be too happy or disappointed with the outcome of Sunday’s encounter, with both teams looking relatively content with a draw as the game drew to a close.

However, Arsenal have now surrendered their position at the top of the table to Liverpool, while Man City remain three points off the Reds.

This title race is going down to the wire, that’s for certain.
