After missing the entirety of the 2021/22 NBA season, Zion Williamson is back playing basketball again and he is keen to make up for lost time and show what he can do.

The New Orleans Pelicans forward hasn’t played competitive basketball since May 2021 as a foot injury forced him to spend an extended spell on the sidelines.

That was a tough blow to take for the 2019 first-pick, who as named an All-Star in 2021 after making the All-Rookie First Team in 2020.

The early signs that he may be able to pick up where he left off are looking good after an impressive run-out against the Chicago Bulls in preseason on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old racked up 13 points and four rebounds in just 15 minutes of action.

There’s more to come

Speaking to reporters after the game, Williamson was cautious but ambitious, knowing there is much work to be done before he gets back to his best, but confident he can get there, and then kick on.

“Couldn’t show them everything, but just kind of getting a feel for it again. Find spots. Picking and choosing where I want to attack,” said Williamson.

“But I got a new team since the last time I played. I’m still learning some of the guys. Today we were able to click.

“I feel like if we can do that for the rest of these preseason games, I feel we’ll be in pretty good shape.”

Coach glad he’s back

Williamson‘s teammates did make the Playoffs without him last year, but then fell in the first round to the Phoenix Suns.

Coach Willie Green is glad to have his star power forward available again.

“He looked good and he’s just going to continue to get better,” Green said.

“That’s what we know about Z. He works at it. He’s a competitor.

“And you know it doesn’t look like it, but he had 13 points, four rebounds in 15 minutes. That’s the type of work he puts in on the floor.”
