Alexander Zverev expects to have a ‘very serious injury’ after being forced to withdraw from his French Open semi-final match with Rafael Nadal.

Zverev retired having lost the first set 7-6 and was heading in to another tiebreak at 6-6 in the second set.

The world No.3 appeared to roll his ankle and he was unable to walk off the court on his own accord.

“It looks like I have a very serious injury, but the medical team, the doctors, are still checking on it and we will keep you updated. We will let you know as soon as we know more,” commented Zverev in his first message since leaving the court,
