Luis Ortiz has sent some strong criticism in the direction of Andy Ruiz over the latter’s decision to take on Tyrone Spong in his next fight.

Ortiz, who had been hoping to take on Ruiz himself, hasn’t wasted any time in criticising Ruiz. He was joined by members of his team in speaking out.

Ortiz’s trainer, German Caicedo, also had his say on the situation, expressing his frustration with Ruiz and his team.

“They talk all this stuff about Luis,” Caicedo said. “Then they run when it comes time to fight him. I don’t understand it, but I guess I do.

“We’re in a sport where you can punch another guy in the face and get away with it and get paid for it, but these guys are too cowardly to keep their word.

I’m disappointed in Andy, but I can’t say I’m surprised.”

“We were told this guy wanted to fight us,” Ortiz himself said, launching an attack on Ruiz. |He did a tune-up because he wasn’t ready for us. Now he goes and takes this fight, it’s not even a tune-up.”

Caicedo, with whom Ortiz has worked for the entirety of his career so far, joined the fighter in taking more shots at Ruiz.

“I spoke to Ruiz’s father last year about the Ruiz-Arreola card,” Caicedo said. “They said, ‘Absolutely, we want that fight.’

“Then we heard he wants another fight. We wanted it in July. He wanted another month, which we were fine with. Then [Triller] announces this s***. He announced this when he told us he wouldn’t be ready for another month.

“Ruiz is full of s***. He just never wanted to fight us.”
