Licensed therapist Kier Gaines took to his Instagram and revealed that a man working as a porter at the Pennsylvania Amtrack Station acted in goodwill once he realized he was struggling.

Kier was traveling solo with his six-year-old daughter Emery Gaines when she had to go to the bathroom. This became challenging for the doting dad.

“I don’t take her to the women’s bathroom. I don’t feel comfortable in the women’s bathroom. So, I took her to the men’s,” Kier explained in a video shared on his account, which has over 600,000 followers.

“We walk into the bathroom, and this homeless guy just comes out of the stall, and it smells terrible in there. One of the porters that clean here saw me and was like, ‘Hey bro, you want me to hit the bathroom and clean it for you?” he recalled.

Kier, who was about to board a train back to Washington D.C., agreed for the porter, Jorsh Delfish, to help clean the bathroom. Delfish told him that he could relate to his situation as he recounted:

“He said, ‘[…] I got a daughter whose five. I understand how hard it is to be a dad and try to get them in a clean bathroom where they feel comfortable and safe.'”

Kier admitted his interaction with Delfish almost brought him to tears, saying his efforts “validated” many things that he felt frustrated with because they were hard. He further stated:

“For that man to see me struggling, and understand deeply what that meant, […] that meant the world. I appreciate that brother.”

Kier praised Delfish, a single dad, saying he is “doing an amazing job.” In his caption, the proud parent wrote that small gestures like this count, too. His followers were also touched by the Delfish’s good-heartedness and shared their thoughts in the comments section.

“Maybe the most wholesome post I’ve seen about being a dad of a young daughter,” penned one person. “Always making me cry over her!” said another.

One other individual echoed, “This made me cry, what a great dad.” Someone else said, “Crying about a guy cleaning a bathroom seems a bit much, but yet here I am…bawling. I love this so much. I’m glad there are still awesome people in the world.” While other Instagram users expressed their thoughts, one only commented using crying face emojis.

After Kier posted the clip on his social media, it went viral with 5 million views and a thousand comments. Delfish, 31, was even interviewed and revealed that he has been in the same situation as Kier several times, which is stressful.

In helping him and his daughter Emery, he wiped down the toilet seat, sprayed his cologne so the space could smell better, and disinfected it. Delfish also disclosed that he has helped many other parents the same way and loves doing the same for his co-workers. He noted people must help each other.

Delfish further revealed that working maintenance at the train station is a good distraction for him after he lost his one-year-old son, Avis, in 2022. “I love my job because I get to meet nice people, and it allows me to make an impact in my community,” he said.

Before this encounter, Washington D.C. resident Kier posted a video surprising his child Emery with a father-daughter vacation to Philadelphia in December 2023. The social upload garnered over 1.4 million likes as people reacted heart-warmingly.

The loving parent shared highlights from the duo’s two-day outing, including their trip there in a train, which Kier revealed was his daughter’s first ride, swimming, participating at a play museum, having a meal together at a Vietnamese Pho restaurant, and eating ice cream.

The parent divulged in an interview that his favorite part about their trip was that he got to know Emery better. They engaged in “great conversation” during their ride. In the caption, Kier penned that he had finished off the year spending quality time with his eldest child and noted he enjoys parenting Emery at this age while describing her as a “little vibe.”
