“I’ve decided it’s time to move on to a new chapter in my working life,” Molloy said on his Drive show on Wednesday. “It just feels the time is right to explore some exciting new creative opportunities that are presenting themselves for the years ahead. “It’s not without a small degree of sadness to know I’m leaving my spiritual home at the house of M’s after all this time, but I’m genuinely proud of what we’ve achieved here and excited about what lays ahead for me.”Molloy, who helmed Martin-Molloy, a beloved radio show with Tony Martin from 1995 to 1998, returned to Triple M in 2011.He co-hosted the Hot Breakfast show alongside Eddie McGuire and Luke Darcy until 2017, before moving to the Drive slot with Jane Kennedy. Kennedy quit their show in January this year.“The show is not coming back next year, which is because I love this show,” Molloy said. “I’ve been here for 11 years, and that’s as long as I’ve been anywhere in my long and storied career. It feels like the right time. It’s the end of one part of the journey, and the start of another, and it feels right.”Molloy added: “I bounce around, I do a little bit of film TV, and radio. If you made me choose, if I could only have one, it would be radio, because I love doing this, and I love talking to Australia. I love taking the temperature out there in the electorate.“It’s a huge thrill for me. I’ll be forever grateful that I’m allowed to do it.“I’ve had a golden run,” Molloy added. “I love radio, I love Triple M, and I’ll be doing radio again, as soon as it’s appropriate.”Molloy paid tribute to McGuire, Darcy, Kennedy, and his former radio producer Jay Mueller.Kennedy left the Kennedy-Molloy show in January this year.“This year marks my third VCE/HSC student in a row and I think most parents will understand what that means, particularly during a Covid lockdown bubble,’’ she said at the time. “I tried to make both work but it’s just become too hard to keep that balance in check.”Mick joked: “I guess I will have to chalk this up as yet another significant relationship with a woman that didn’t last as long as I would have liked.’’Molloy, who also co-hosts Channel 7’s AFL show, The Front Bar, has an extensive resume in TV and radio. Molloy once said he’s learned not to burn bridges in the industry.“There’s a fair chance you’ll be trying to work with these people again at some stage,” he said. “You can’t afford to go in throwing haymakers, or tipping over furniture, or setting fire to pot plants.”Molloy will headline his Triple M Drive show for four more weeks.
