Best Friends Are Killed on Way to Prom Minutes after Taking Their Last Photos in Beautiful Dresses

What was supposed to be one of the most exciting days for two Irish teenage girls turned into a nightmare for their families after an unexpected incident occurred. The girls were all set to attend their school’s prom night when the unthinkable happened.

17-year-old Kiea McCann and 16-year-old Dlava Mohammed, students of Largy College in Monaghan, Ireland, did their makeup and hair, hoping to look stunning at their prom night.

McCann wore a glittery red dress with a long slit, while Mohammed looked beautiful in a satin blue dress. The girls took photos after getting ready, hoping they would see their friends and classmates.

The best friends had gathered at McCann’s house to enjoy before the prom. They had decorated the house with balloons and were excited about attending the event before leaving, unaware that they would never reach their destination.

A few minutes after leaving McCann’s home, a tragic incident claimed the best friends’ lives. Their car collided with a tree near Clones, Co Monaghan, on July 31, 2023, and they died after the impact.

McCann’s father, Frankie, rushed to the accident site soon after the incident and held his daughter in his arms while waiting for the first responders. He reportedly saw his daughter breathe her last as he cradled her.

The authorities believe the girls’ vehicle slipped away because the road was wet. The driver, a 60-year-old man, was a friend of the girls’ who offered to drive them to the venue. He and another girl heading to the prom are in the hospital after being injured in the accident.

Frank and his wife, Teresa, never thought the girls wouldn’t return home. They felt delighted to see the girls dress up for one of the most important milestones of their lives but never thought they would die a few minutes after leaving the house.

Heather Humphreys, The Minister for Social Protection and local TD, spoke about the unfortunate incident, “It is every parent’s worst nightmare because nobody expects to get that phone call.” She added that one of the teenagers’ parents received a call about the incident while she was on the football field, not expecting her child to be in trouble.

Humphreys termed the incident “an awful tragedy,” while Teresa, McCann’s mother, said, “It will be hard on all the young people. Hard on all the friends.” Friends and family of McCann and Mohammed’s parents visited them to mourn the girls’ death.

A group of mourners also gathered with Mohammed’s family to grieve her death, while McCann’s sister wrote a heartbreaking post on social media. “I really don’t know what to say. I’m just so heartbroken over you, my little baby sister,” she said.

The unfortunate incident left everyone heartbroken. A local senator, Robbie Gallagher, also spoke about the incident, saying it had affected everyone in the town and was “the only topic of conversation.”
