Daughter’s tribute to amazing Huddersfield dad who died suddenly at his home

A daughter has paid tribute to her “amazing” father who was her “best friend” who died suddenly last month.

Tony Shaw, 63, died suddenly at his home in Huddersfield on September 28 after suffering with an ischemic heart disease and COPD. His daughter and best friend, Holly Shaw, 25, had been calling her dad but he hadn’t answered his phone – she drove to his house and tragically he had died.

Holly has paid tribute to her “best friend,” she recalled how the pair would do everything together. She said: “I don’t have any words at the moment, it was a shock. He had been sick but had always come around.

“I phoned him on Wednesday night and he wasn’t answering his phone so I went down to his house and he was no longer with us.

“We were best like best friends, I had always lived with my dad and we did everything together. We went out together, lived together and all things like that. We have loads of memories but at the moment they are all blurred into one. It was a bit of a shock to be honest.

“My dad was great, he was very funny, loved being social and going out with his friends, though could be grumpy at times. A lot of people will have had many happy memories with my pops.

“We came as a pair. I was the closest person to him.”

Hollie has organised a GoFundMe page to raise money for her dad’s funeral. She added: “I’m asking for funeral donations because it’s so expensive. Instead of flowers we want donations – he wasn’t a very flowery person.”

The 25-year-old wrote on the GoFundMe page: “I would love to give my dad the funeral that he deserves to honour his memory and to say our final goodbye to him. He can twang his guitar in his cowboy hat wherever he ends up.”

Tony’s funeral will be held at Huddersfield crematorium on Tuesday, October 24 from 9.30am – 10.30am.
