Gary Oldman, 65, Blasted for His ‘Faked’ Kiss with Wife, 61, despite Actor Thinking They Were ‘Like Peas in a Pod’

Gary Oldman and his wife, Gisele Schmidt, faced backlash for packing up the PDA while on holiday in Capri, Italy, on September 2, 2023. The couple was spotted kissing on the back of a yacht.

The English actor wore a black t-shirt, which he paired with a denim jacket and green linen trousers with black Converse shoes. He tied his hair back in a ponytail and sported sunglasses.

Meanwhile, Oldman’s significant other donned a white t-shirt and a pair of black trousers. She had a black bag across her body with a camera inside. Schmidt and her famous husband were joined by a few friends on the boat as they were all photographed leaving the vessel together.

The duo reportedly appeared “in love as ever” while getting cozy on their vacation, and their public display of affection was described as “The look of true love.”

However, one Facebook user believes the couple’s kiss was not genuine, writing, “Looks faked,” on the platform. Other users who assessed the photo echoed the same sentiments.

“She is kissing him. He does not even try,” wrote one person. Another individual stated Oldman was focused elsewhere as he did not make eye contact while kissing his wife, adding, “So, he isn’t in love with her.”

Others positively commented on Oldman and his love Schmidt’s photo despite the criticism. One person complimented her, penning, “A loving wife…”

“That’s what true love is,” said someone else. While another user commented on Facebook under the Daily Mail social upload page, “Beautiful family.”

Oldman’s wife, Schmidt, is a writer and an art curator who met Oldman through his interest in art photography. The lovebirds wed in August 2017 in a low-key ceremony.

While Oldman has exchanged wedding vows several times with actresses including Uma Thurman, Lesley Manville, Alexandra Edenborough, and photographer Donya Fiorentino, this is his fifth wife’s second marriage.

Schmidt has a son with her former husband, while Oldman has three sons from his previous marriages. The mother of one has attended several red-carpet events with her spouse.

The film star once disclosed that he asked Schmidt to marry him while dressed as his character Winston Churchill from the war drama movie, “Darkest Hour,” starring alongside Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James.

Oldman appeared on the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” show in January 2018 and revealed there had been a filming break, and he felt that he needed to propose to Schmidt during that period.

According to him, they had already discussed the marriage talk. While on set, he took his partner to the other room and popped the question. After Schmidt said yes, a crew member called on him, saying they were ready to resume filming the movie.

While playing Winston Churchill, Oldman had white hair and was almost bald. He wore a black suit, a white shirt underneath, and a bow tie. He finished his look with glasses.

Oldman, an Academy Award winner who has been married five times, admitted to reporters in November 2017 how he feels about his spouse, Schmidt:

“You know, sometimes you have to go through the others. I’ve gone through my thing, and we’re like peas in a pod… I’m nearly 60 and at last, I think I’ve come home.”

In a November 2022 interview, Oldman, who is now 65 years old, acknowledged that he is growing old and that, soon enough, he would be approaching the seventies.

The Hollywood star divulged he would not want to see himself on-screen when he reaches 80. He currently stars as Jackson Lamb in the drama series, “Slow Horses.” Oldman said he would like to retire after the spy show ends, “I’d be very happy and honored and privileged to go out as Jackson Lamb – and then hang it up.
