John Goodman turns 70 on June 20, 2022. He is best recognized for his Emmy-nominated role as Dan Connor in the successful comedy “Roseanne.” In high school, the actor excelled in football and dabbled in theater.

However, an injury after receiving a football scholarship crushed his dreams of a professional sports career. The injury made him change his major to drama and studied theater before moving to New York to become a professional actor after graduation.

JOHN GOODMAN’S DRAMATIC WEIGHT LOSS: HERE’S HOW THE “ROSEANNE” STAR MANAGED TO DROP 200LBS

When Goodman entered his fifties, he vowed to live a better life and lose weight, drastically changing his appearance. The actor said:

“I’d rather be healthy and laughed at than overweight and laughed at. Plus, I heard someone say that you can be old, or you can be fat, but being old and fat doesn’t really work very well.”

As friends and family begged him to slim down because of his large frame, which he jokingly said was breaking their furniture, Goodman, who had always exercised, also went on a yo-yo diet.

Goodman also cut out heavy drinking in 2007 and stopped eating all the time because he got to the point where he got sick and tired of looking at himself in the mirror.

While comparing his overeating to his struggles in the past with alcohol, Goodman said:

“There was an emptiness inside me. I still have it, but I know what it is now. You recognize it and go, “There it is.” You don’t have to fill it with another pork chop or another drink.”

Goodman is aware that there is an active interest in his weight loss, which he acknowledges he expected once he began losing weight. Despite not exercising as much as he once was, he has maintained his new frame in recent years.
