Feeling like she was out of options, Foxworth turned to unhealthy coping mechanisms, and her life spiraled out of control. Desperate to make money, the young star found herself in a dangerous industry at 19 years old.

Foxworth revealed that telling her mother was “the hardest part,” but thankfully, she did not respond with judgment. The actress explained:

“She didn’t reprimand me, she didn’t yell at me, she said, ‘I still love you, and we have to deal with this.'”

If she had stayed in school and gone on to college, Foxworth believes she would not have gained the risqué reputation she did and may have pursued other careers to make a living.

After appearing on “Celebrity Rehab” in 2008 and beginning to wean herself off unhealthy habits, Foxworth’s life took a significant turn. She discovered she was pregnant, and the news forced her to reevaluate her lifestyle.

Realizing that she would need to be able to care for a child, she made a promise to stop her substance abuse, sharing her request to God:

“If you give me the healthiest son, I will stop today.”

In 2009, Foxworth’s prayers were answered. She gave birth to a healthy son, Michael Douglas Shaw Jr., named after her longtime partner—this moment marked a significant turning point in her life.

Even though Foxworth had filed a restraining order against her boyfriend, Michael Shaw, for physical and verbal abuse just four months after the birth of their son, the two eventually reconciled.

Foxworth said in an interview with “Oprah: Where Are They Now?” that she believes all women go through certain situations with their significant others, but hers was just magnified because it was in the news.

Foxworth now works as a full-time mom, and Shaw financially supports their family. Though Foxworth still receives residuals and budgets well, she said Shaw is a big part of the family’s financial stability.

The “Family Matters” actress believes in giving second chances to those who promise to treat others right, and she chose to do so with Shaw.
