Alex Batty’s grandmother has spoken about how ‘relieved’ she is that her grandson has been found after escaping from ‘a six-year kidnap’.
Alex vanished when he was just 11 years old after going on a family holiday to Spain with his mum and grandad.
Alex, now 17, from Oldham in Greater Manchester, was found by French a delivery driver hiking through the foothills of the French Pryenees mountains after he escaped from his alleged kidnap to return to his family in the UK.

It’s believed that he was abducted by his mother Melanie Batty to live an “alternative” lifestyle abroad. But he was found on Thursday (December 14) and has now spoken with his gran Susan Caruana.
Susan Caruana, grandmother to Alex Batty, said: “I cannot begin to express my relief and happiness that Alex has been found safe and well. I spoke with him last night and it was so good to hear his voice and see his face again. I can’t wait to see him when we’re reunited.
“The main thing is that he’s safe, after what would be an overwhelming experience for anyone, not least a child. I would ask that our family are given privacy as we welcome Alex back, so we can make this process as comforting as possible.”
Alex is expected to return to the UK in the next few days, police have said.
