The picture showed the couple standing side-by-side in an embrace while looking straight at the camera with big smiles. Marilou was dressed in a white wedding gown, while he wore a gray suit for their wedding day.

In the post’s caption, the actor noted how they were celebrating more than four decades of marriage. The star, who shared several children with his wife, thanked her for saying “yes” to his proposal.

The couple’s lastborn child, Chelsea Elizabeth, then 34, also paid tribute to her parents on their anniversary with a post on her Instagram account. Along with three throwback posts of her parents when they were much younger, Chelsea wished them a happy anniversary.

Two photos were black and white, while one was in color, and days later, the actor shared another image of him with his wife. The photo was more current, and alongside it, he revealed how grateful he was for the warm wishes, kindness, and support for their “16,060 days together as a married couple.”

Someone noted the days, saying they believed the duo was “just getting started. A second person congratulated the Hamills, jokingly sharing how the first 16,000 days were the hardest! Referring to a “Star Wars” line, a third person wished that the “force” could be with them both, while someone else added:

“It’s very nice to see a couple, especially a famous couple, have such a solid bond.”

Mark Reveals the Secret of Their Marriage

Marilou once told a publication that the secret to their long-lasting marriage was that they didn’t live in the town. The star’s wife, who shared three children with him, also said they didn’t attend parties.

Besides the lastborn Hamill child, who worked as her father’s assistant, the couple also had Nathan Elias, 43, in 2022, and Griffin Tobias, then 39. Since Mark reprised his Luke Skywalker character in the “Star Wars” franchise, his wife and Chelsea have been by his side.

The trio traveled to premieres worldwide, where they made appearances and interviews. The lastborn Hamill child revealed what the bonding moments meant to her, and the role family played in her life, stating:

“It’s fun to be together like this. As you get older, you start treasuring the times you get to spend with family.”

The couple would not have gotten to the decades they did in marriage if Marilou had lacked one particular trait. Ironically, the duo even broke things off once before reuniting for life.

Sadly, they broke up when Mark became famous, with him explaining he had to explore fame and groupies. The actor joked that dating Las Vegas showgirls wore off quickly, and then he wanted “something to hold onto” and a family.
