Strictly Come Dancing professional Amy Dowden appeared on ITV‘s Lorraine today (Wednesday, December, 3) and revealed her hopes of getting back on the Strictly dance floor following her battle with breast cancer.

Amy said: “I just want to get myself back on that dance floor and it would be amazing to win Strictly, but winning would be to be back with the gang, dancing, doing what I love, in front of an audience with the people I love. I’ve missed it so much.”

She revealed Hugh Jackman, Ben Shephard and Luke Evans would be great to partner up with. Along with fighting cancer and undergoing a mastectomy, Amy also battled sepsis and broke her foot last year and has recently had to self administer injections for blood clotting.

“I’ve had two blood clots in my arm, one on my lungs and at the beginning of December, I was rushed in and they were worried it was travelling to the heart. But I’m injecting myself every day and my stomach is black and blue from it,” she said.

Talking about her broken foot, she told Lorraine, “I go back this afternoon to see the fracture clinic. Being on chemo, it can delay your bones healing, make your bone density weaker, so I’ll get some answers but I can’t wait for it to come off.”

During the chat, Amy also reflected on 2023 and bravely admitted she felt “bitter” when she saw everyone’s posts on New Year’s Eve looking back at the year they’d had.

She said, “At the beginning of the year, I had so many lovely plans. I was on the Strictly arena tour, honeymoon planned with my husband and then within a day, when I got the news… it doesn’t just change during the treatment and surgery, it changes forever, it has changed me as a person. My parents, my family, I see the pain in their eyes, it affected all of us, my husband, my lovely dance school and students.”

She added, “I look back and I did find some amazing opportunities but also, I thought, I’ve had cancer, I’ve lost my hair, I’ve had sepsis, I went in to septic shock, I’ve had blood clots, broke my foot and you’re watching everyone else share these lovely photos and reels and I was a bit jealous.”

But she is aiming to be on the dance floor again, after making an appearance in the Strictly Come Dancing final at the end of last year.

“The production team have been amazing, I was meant to have done a whole group number based on a dance about my cancer journey and I was devastated when I broke my foot and I couldn’t do it,” Amy explained.

“But being the amazing team, I did fanography and just being back there and that adrenaline, it’s what I’ve missed so much. It made my dancing heart so happy being back on that floor,” she said.

Watch Lorraine weekdays from 9am on ITV1 & ITVX.
