MINNEAPOLIS, MN: In a recent tragic incident, Arabella Foss-Yarbrough, a mother from Minneapolis, was captured on camera yelling at a crowd of protesters who had gathered outside an apartment building in the Seward neighborhood where a Black man named Andrew “Tekle” Sundberg was shot and killed by police on July 14. This is not a George Floyd problem, she yelled.

On July 16, a sizable crowd of demonstrators gathered outside the south-side apartment where 20-year-old Sundberg was shot after a six-hour standoff. The mother of the two and four-year-old children who had initially phoned 911 the night of the incident also turned up at the scene. “The shot went through my door, through a pillar to the kitchen, where I was preparing food for my children,” she cried. Because they nearly died, my kids now have to deal with this and likely suffer from a mental disorder. He sat in the f-ing hallway watching me move, which resulted in gunshot holes in my kitchen. In front of my kids, he attempted to kill me. Not in this case, George Floyd. George Floyd had no weapons. Arabella addressed him, saying, “This is not okay. On May 25, 2020, a Black American man, George Floyd, was shot and killed in Minneapolis by a White police officer. Video of the incident went viral and sparked significant protests.

Who was Andrew ‘Tekle’ Sundberg?

According to CBS reports, on the night of July 14, 20-year-old Sundberg fired several bullets. His neighbor, Arabella, called 911 and reported that a bullet had gone through her wall. “The first loud sound I heard, I didn’t know it was a gunshot,” she admitted. She described how she grabbed her two small sons and fled to the bedroom, where she contacted the police, who arrived and saved them. “I thought, ‘We’re not going to make it, we’re not going to make it,’” she said.

Sundberg became reclusive after the police ejected Arabella’s boys from the flat, and the officers had to spend more than six hours dealing with him. Then, on July 15, at around 4.30 am, two snipers shot Sundberg, leaving him dead. He passed away at Hennepin Healthcare later. Arabella’s and the dead man’s neighbor McCay Lillian stated on Facebook that she heard the gunshots and criticized the demonstrators for not believing her. She described how she and her husband “got a notification to stay in our home because there was an active shooter 0.5 miles away” on the night of the massacre. After a brief period of silence, there were only sirens and the sounds of officers speaking over the intercom in exactly the same fashion for the following six hours. Please pick up your phone so that we may speak; this is the Minneapolis Police Department, Tekle. I didn’t discover the cause of it all until after 12 AM. He started shooting at his neighbor’s apartment across the hall on that Tuesday evening when she and her children were inside. It baffles me how a woman managed to flee her stalker with two kids at her side. Even worse, up until recently, every single post I have seen and each channel I have watched has dismissed her. Not only is her house gone, but the day after she was released, she was able to rejoice by witnessing the vigil, protest, and rallies held by her would-be assassins. Being nearly murdered by your stalker is simply not enough to be accorded even the slightest respect, let alone any recognition for protecting her children, as demonstrated by this case, which serves as a perfect example of how black women are treated in today’s culture. She also added a clarification to her original post, saying, “We could see right into his unit when he lifted the curtains the entire night. Nothing is missing that we know of.

The second incident involving Minneapolis police involved the shooting death of Sandberg by SWAT team members Aaron Pearson and Zachary Seraphine. The first incident included the shooting of Amir Locke on February 2 of this year by a SWAT team carrying out an early-morning no-knock warrant. The Minneapolis City Attorney’s Office replied to calls for the release of the Sundberg shooting video by stating, “With more than 50 officers participating over the course of more than six hours, there are hundreds of hours of body camera video and audio to analyze. Personnel from the Minneapolis Police Department are working through the process to redact portions of footage, such as identities, that will be seen in the near future in accordance with legal standards and protocol.

Who is Arabella Foss-Yarbrough?

According to sources, Arabella, who survived the shooting, is of Black, White, and Native descent. I have Black children; I am a lady of color, why are you protesting? she queried the crowd. Would you people do this for me if I had lost my life?

Arabella created a GoFundMe campaign after she lost her job as a result of the altercation with the cops. According to the website, Sundberg “has been harassing and stalking her for months.” To assist with Sundberg’s burial costs, “food, and aiding the younger siblings in the family,” another GoFundMe was also created.
