Growing up in an environment where most of her family abused substances and seeing the negative impact on their lives, Suzette Snider opted for a “straight-edge” life, free of all drugs and alcohol.

After the death of three close family members, she was diagnosed with clinical depression, but even then, she had trouble taking prescription medication. She found answers in spiritual readings and had plant-based medicine in the controlled environment of a retreat.

Suzette Snider Chose a Different Path in Life than Her Family

Born in an Italian Catholic family on September 16, 1960, in Long Island, New York, Suzette did not have an easy childhood. Her parents were divorced, and both her brothers had criminal and drug affiliations.

Within five years, she lost her mother to an illness, a brother to suicide, and another brother was murdered. Her sibling, Vincent Gargiulo, was reportedly killed by someone he had tried to extort in Manhattan in August 2003.

She is the costume designer for the award-winning “Fool’s Day,” written by her sons Cody and Shane and directed by the former. In 1987, she was a makeup artist on “The Howard Stern Show” and worked in the wardrobe department on three episodes.

When Suzette Was 15, She Met 21 Year Old Dee

An outcast in high school, Dee started Twisted Sister to meet women. Mistaking thinking it was a female-led group, Suzette snuck into one of his gigs when she was 15 with her cousin’s ID card. He was smitten after laying eyes on her and promised he would be famous one day.

They married on October 23, 1981, but almost split three years later when the success of his band turned Dee into a “megalomaniac.” The young couple repaired their bond in counseling.

She went back to work in 1992 to become the breadwinner after her husband’s career took a knock. An early fan of Twisted Sister, she designed the logo for the metal group and her partner’s iconic stage costumes.

The couple was on “Celebrity Wife Swap” in 2012, where they traded spouses with rapper Flavor Flav and his partner Liz Trujillo. On April 16, 2020, the designer celebrated the first day she met Dee, and said, “You know it’s true love when you are in quarantine, and you still love each other LOL.”

Cheyenne is a designer like her mom and a “total metalhead” like her dad.

The rocker describes his wife as an “insanely gifted hairdresser, makeup artist, and stylist.” He had to disappoint a fan in May 2021 who wanted to hire her to update their look, as she only works with her family now.

Dee Wanted Kids – But Never a Girl

Suzette and Dee have four children: Jesse Blaze Snider, Shane Snider, Cody Blue Snider, and a daughter, Cheyenne Snider. The rocker said that he initially did not want a daughter because he knew that they would easily be able to manipulate him. He spoke of his youngest:

“She is passionate, difficult and Daddy’s girl – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
