NYC issues Travel Advisory
New York City Emergency Management placed the city under a Travel Advisory due to the expected snow and possible freezing precipitation.
Alternate Side Parking Regulations will be suspended Tuesday. Payment at parking meters will remain in effect throughout the city.
“With snowfall projected to hit our area this evening into tomorrow morning, New Yorkers should take the necessary precautions to remain safe,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “While it’s been nearly two years since New York City experienced more than an inch of snowfall, all relevant city agencies have been activated and are prepared to handle whatever comes our way. As a reminder, New Yorkers should sign up for Notify NYC to keep up to date on winter weather.”
DSNY Issues Snow Alert
The New York City Department of Sanitation issued a Snow Alert for Monday through 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Brine was being deployed on high spots, highways, and areas prone to icing ahead of the storm. The full fleet of nearly 800 salt spreaders will be positioned and ready to go as soon as the first precipitation falls.
We haven’t had a significant snowstorm in more than 700 days, so the Department is fully stocked with over 700 million pounds of salt.
More than 2,000 of the Department’s collection trucks will be turned into snow plows and these plows will be activated when a “plowable depth” of 2″ of snow is reached.
All winter weather information and information about the City’s response to the storm can be found by visiting the City’s Severe Weather website at nyc.gov/severeweather or by calling 311.
