For nine seasons now, Anthony Rizzo has proven to be one of the most fearsome hitters in the Major Leagues because of his power that made him a beloved player at the time with the Chicago Cubs, however, last season he came to the New York Yankees and at the start of the 2022 season, he already accomplished something at Yankee Stadium that he never accomplished at Wrigley Field.
Anthony Rizzo’s first career 3-HR game
On Tuesday night, the Bronx Bombers‘ first baseman hit three homers for the first time in his career in his team’s 12-8 win over the divisional rivals, the Baltimore Orioles.
Rizzo stole the show that was supposed to belong to the franchise player of the team with the most World Series wins in history, outfielder Aaron Jugde, who turned 30 and hit a solo blast, while Joey Gallo stopped the longest streak of his career without hitting a HR.
“I think he (Anthony Rizzo) likes Yankee Stadium,” New York manager Aaron Boone said. “After tonight, I think it sealed it.”
Three home runs historically “short”
Between the three homers, Rizzo averaged a distance of 350 feet, the lowest average for someone connecting for three home runs in a single game since this metric was conducted in 2015, plus the player of Italian descent leads MLB with eight four-corner hits so far this season.
“He’s got huge power he can pull to all fields,” Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said. “He’s smart. He took advantage of (the ballpark), all three pull-side homers here.”
Aaron Judge’s milestone
Judge joined the legendary Lou Gehrig and Jerry Mumphrey as the only Yankess players to connect on at least one home run on their 30th birthdays.
In Gallo’s case, the 23-game homerless fast that came to an end in this game against the Orioles is just his first such hit so far this season.
