The Houston Astros defeated the New York Yankees 5-0 in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS) on Saturday at Yankee Stadium and are just one win away from sweeping their way into the 2022 MLB World Series.

Yankees, who failed to score against Cristian Javier in Game 3, will face elimination Sunday.

Astros manager Dusty Baker benched Javier in the fifth inning, finishing the game with just one allowed hit, five strikeouts and three walks.

Yankees only got two hits, nearly breaking the franchise’s mark for fewest hits (1) in an MLB Playoffs game.

The backbone of New York’s offense, consisting of Anthony Rizzo, Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gleyber Torres, will need to pull off the impossible to reach the World Series.

Gerrit Cole struggles

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole did not have an adequate performance, allowing five hits and three clean runs through five innings to go with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Cole gave up a two-run homer to Chas McCormick in the second inning.

He then allowed a double by Jose Altuve, who had been struggling coming into Game 3.

Lou Trivino replaced Cole and did not perform much better.

Lance McCullers Jr. will start for Houston on Sunday, while Nestor Cortes is scheduled to open the night for New York.
