Kevin Durant‘s future is still up in the air as potential suitors within the NBA emerge every other day after he communicated his desire to depart the Brooklyn Nets.
The latest team to have reportedly joined the race to sign Durant are the Boston Celtics.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Celtics are no closer to signing Durant than other teams, but the possibility of including an All-Star player such as Jaylen Brown in a potential deal could make a trade happen.
The Celtics join the Miami Heat, Phoenix Suns and Toronto Raptors in the race to sign Durant. However, none of these teams have so far met the Nets‘ demands.
In Brooklyn, they want to squeeze the most out of what would be the departure of one of the best players in the NBA. They are asking for proven replacements and multiple unprotected first-round picks.
What the Celtics could offer
Jayson Tatum would not be part of the deal, but Wojnarowski believes Boston could include Brown, who has two years left on his 56m dollar contract, and up to three unprotected first-round picks (2025, 2027 and 2029), as well as two more picks in 2024 and 2026.
The 12-time All-Star and two-time NBA Finals MVP requested a trade on June 30.
Aged 33, he still has four years and 198m dollars left on his current contract.
