The Cincinnati Bengals are not necessarily the luckiest NFL team in history, however, the present looks bright for a team that has lost all three Super Bowls it has contested, that depends, of course, on the health of its star quarterback Joe Burrow and, in that regard, this Sunday was a great day.

According to a report from Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic, Burrow, for the first time since undergoing appendectomy surgery 19 days ago, donned a helmet to practice with the Bengals, which is a much earlier time than expected despite the fact that there has yet to be a time frame to see the former LSU passer back on a gridiron.

Burrow: It stings.. but we still have something to celebrateAP

No word on what Burrow did at Bengals practice

It’s important to add that it’s not known how much Burrow did during practice and there’s no update yet on his health status, but seeing him team assume a step forward in his return is vital for the defending AFC champion team.

Cincinnati began the preseason with a loss last Friday at home to the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 36-23 and will have their next game next Sunday when they visit the New York Giants.

Will Burrow be ready for the start of the regular season?

The final preseason game for the Bengals will be Saturday, August 27, hosting the Los Angeles Rams in a rematch of last year’s Super Bowl LVI, which Cincinnati lost by a score of 23-20.

With no further information on Burrow’s health status, the real hope for Bengals fans is to see him fully healthy when Cincinnati opens the regular season next Sunday, September 11, hosting their hated AFC North rival, the Pittsburgh Steelers, at Paycor Stadium.
