Caitlyn Jenner opposed Lia Thomas‘ victory in the women’s NCAA swimming championship, and instead named second place Emma Weyant as the true winner.

Thomas secured the 500-yard freestyle title on Thursday in a dominant victory with a time of 4:33:24, which was more than a second-and-a-half ahead of Weyant.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had denounced Thomas‘ championship win, and Jenner tweeted her agreement with his opinion.

“@GovRonDeSantis agreed! She [Emma Weyant] is the rightful winner!” she said.

Although 72-year-old Jenner has expressed her full support for Thomas‘ decision to be her true self, she has criticised her participation in women’s sports in the past.

Jenner believes that women’s sports must be protected, and that when transgender athletes such as Thomas compete against biological women it creates an unfair advantage.

The NCAA decided that transgender athlete participation would be decided on a sport-by-sport approach.

As a result, the governing bodies of each sport are responsible for creating their own set of rules on this matter.
