Once again the buzz surrounding the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin in September is taking centre stage .

This time, it was ESPN’s David Faitelson who revealed that there are ongoing personal problems between the two fighters.

Faitelson spoke about the spectacle of staging a boxing match, but that this bout goes a little further than that.

“Boxing is part of it, it is part of a circus,” Faitelson declared to ESPN.

“What happens outside the ring, beforehand, is to sell the PPV, to sell tickets and to heat up the betting.

“There is a personal matter that Canelo is stubborn about bringing into this situation with Golovkin, which could do him a lot of harm.”

Faitelson speaks of a change in Canelo‘s personality as a result of the recent criticism he has received during his fights.

Canelo has a very strange personality. He has a very direct personality, very frank. And you have to appreciate that. He says what he feels,” he added.

“I do believe there is something deep down. There is something that hurt Canelo too much and Golovkin is taking advantage of it.

“Because Golovkin says he has nothing personal against him, Canelo is confusing the situation with Golovkin, and making it personal, which can do him a lot of harm.”
