France’s World Cup final defeat to Argentina was a difficult one for Didier Deschamps to take, and the veteran coach is unclear on whether he will remain in the job.

His agent Jean-Pierre Bernes has already been forced to address questions over his client’s continuity with Les Bleus, but he gave a clear indication that Deschamps will need time to clear his head.

“It’s a decision that concerns his professional future and his future in general,” Bernes told RMC.

“It’s not something you do lightly in the stadium after a final. It’s a decision that has to be taken calmly.

Didier will go back to France and he will take a few days to rest and to reflect.

“At the beginning of January he will see the president [Noel] Le Graet to tell him his decision.”

Deschamps answers questions about his future

It’s not only Bernes who had to deal with questions on this topic as the coach himself was quizzed on his future immediately after France‘s penalty shootout defeat in Qatar.

“I’m not going to answer today,” Deschamps clarified.

“I’m sad for my players and my staff.

“I have an appointment with the president at the beginning of the year and we will see.”
