Christian Eriksen is a walking miracle. His story is a fairytale, and it just gets better with every passing week.

The latest chapter came on Saturday with a magnificent performance to lead Brentford to a historic 4-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

It was the latest vindication of Thomas Frank‘s decision to recruit the Danish midfielder in January.

Eriksen was a free agent after having to leave Inter due to the rule in Serie A which means a player cannot play with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

Eriksen was fitted with an IDC just days after suffering a heart attack in Denmark‘s opening match of Euro 2020 against Finland last June.

However, Brentford offered the 30-year-old a way back to elite football at the start of 2022, and he has repaid their faith in some style.

A dream month

Eriksen made his Brentford debut on February 26 as a substitute in a 2-0 defeat at home to Newcastle United, but he has since been the catalyst in the Bees’ revival.

He has regained some of his best form both at club and international level, scoring in his last three consecutive games, with those goals coming against the Netherlands and Serbia before putting his side 2-1 up against Chelsea.

Future up in the air

Eriksen only penned a deal with Brentford until the end of the campaign, and Thomas Frank has reiterated on various occasions his desire to keep him next season.

However, the 2022/23 campaign could see Eriksen make his return to the top level of European football, should he keep up his outstanding form.

Despite the uncertainty over his future, one thing is for certain: Eriksen is well and truly back.
