Many think that after the poor performance that Gennady Golovkin gave when he faced Canelo Alvarez a couple of weeks ago, the Kazakh fighter should retire and save himself from a possible embarassement after he’es reached the age of 40 and his athleticism appear to be on the decline.

Even thougn Canelo took the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF super middleweight titles, GGG still has in his control the IBF and WBA middleweight championship belts.

And the World Boxing Association has issued a order for Golovkin to take on his next opponent.
Gennady Golovkin’s next fight
The WBA Championships Committee has ordered middleweight super champion Gennady Golovkin to enter a mandatory bout against Erislandy Lara, due to their world title reduction plan.
The association gave both fighters one month to reach an agreement for the fight, but the time frame ends on October 23.
The World Boxing Association had previously granted permission to GGG to move up a division so he could face Canelo Alvarez in September, under the condition that he’ll have to come back to middleweight and take on the Erislandy Lara fight, with the winner being crowned the WBA’s 160-pound champion.
This is because the WBA states in their rules that a champion must defend his title against the official contender 120 days after winning the title, and Golovkin won the title on April 9 after his victory over Ryota Murata, so that deadline had expired since August 8.
If both fighters can’t reach an agreement before October 23, then the fight will be sent to auction and the earnings split will be 75% for GGG and 25% for the Cuban boxer.
