Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez appeared in a press conference just three days after their tense face-off in Los Angeles last Friday.

The two boxers were more conciliatory and avoided to continue the tension ahead of the fight that will take place on September 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This promising bout will be the third and last part of the trilogy between the two men.

“I’ve said things and I’m never going to say that I didn’t say what I said [in the past],” said Golovkin.

“But I believe that this is an outstanding fight for me, that is an outstanding fight for the world of boxing and I don’t think that we have a personal rivalry.

“But September 17 is coming, and whatever unfinished business we have, we’re going to meet each other in the ring and resolve it.

“If he says that he wants to destroy me, it’s a big bonus for all people, all fans, boxing fans. It will be an amazing fight not only for me and him, but also for all boxing fans. We’ll take everything to the next level. It’s the best fight in boxing. It’s my dream.”

Canelo demands respect

On his part, Canelo stressed that he does not intend to say something unrespectful in order to lure more viewers ahead of the fight with Golovkin.

“As always: I like to respect my opponents when they respect me,” said Canelo.

“I don’t need to do this kind of thing to sell pay-per-views. I don’t. I’m always respectful, but this time it will be different and this is the person I am.”
