The 64th Grammy Awards took place in Las Vegas MGM Grand Arena this Sunday with comedian Trevor Noah hosting the event. Initially, we all expected him to talk about the Oscars Will Smith slap but he only limited himself to say “we will keep each other’s names off our mouths”. However, this show was filled with only feel-good moments that didn’t allow for any negativity to slip through the cracks of an otherwise decadent award show. Truly, all award shows are slowly starting to wither away but having a “normal” one tonight was actually refreshing. Newcomer artit Olivia Rodrigo won Best New Artist and Best Vocal Pop Album of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. Silk Sonic took two of the biggest awards with Song and Record of the Year for ‘Leave the Door Open’.

Billie Eilish honors Taylor Hawkins.

One of the big winners of the evening were the Foo Fighters, who swept all the Rock categories but couldn’t attend the show due to the untimely death of Taylor Hawkins. Billie Eilish delivered a heartfelt performance in which she wore a Taylor Hawkins t-shirt and rocked on the stage with her brother, Finneas. Tevor Noah also honored Hawkins in the ‘In Memoriam’ segment with a video put together by the Recording Academy. During the show, Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a passionate speech vie sattelite that left the Grammys above the Oscars in terms of representation. But the big winner of the evening was the great Jon Batiste.

Jon Batiste wins the biggest award of the evening.

After delivering an incredible performance with ‘Freedom’ at the Grammys, Jon Batiste ended up winning Album of the Year for ‘We Are’. Jon was shocked by the announcement, he truly wasn’t expecting to win and he still delivered a touching speech in which he honored all artists in the room. But there were so many great moments in this evening that reminded us the entertainment industry can still hve memorable events. In terms of performances, they were all fire with Olivia Rodrigo opening the event. Justin Bieber performedn ‘Peaches’. Lil Nas X also lit up the stage with ‘Industry Baby’. Nas performed a memorable rendition of ‘I Can’. John Legend played ‘Free’ during the ‘In Memoriam’ with various artists from Ukraine right after Zelensky’s speech. Lady Gaga performed without her beloved Tony Bennett. BTS was also present with one of the first performances of the evening. It was a good night to change the pace after last week’s craziness.
