The dreadful brawl in the Liga MX game between Querétaro and Atlas continues to have sad repercussions in Mexican soccer and prior to the vital Concacaf qualifying match between “El Tri” and the United States before the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the decisions made by the Mexican Soccer Federation not to exclude the barras bravas from the stadiums have a large part of the fans very upset and they have threatened to take revenge at the Estadio Azteca this Thursday.

What does the #Gritaputo consist of?

On Twitter, for the region of Mexico, a trending topic called #Gritaputo was generated in which fans attending the Azteca Stadium are invited to chant the homophobic chant when the opposing goalkeeper clears with the intention of generating a new FIFA sanction to Gerardo “Tata” Martino‘s team that would deprive them of attending the World Cup in Qatar 2022.

Mexico has already been sanctioned on a couple of occasions by FIFA in these Concacaf qualifiers, forcing it to play a total of three home games without a home crowd and if the world soccer governing body wanted to, it could take away points from El Tri or even leave it out of the World Cup.

Another reason that has Mexican fans upset with the directors is the high cost of tickets for the match against the United States, which is considered the “Concacaf Classic“, in addition to the fact that the advantage was limited to 50,000 tickets that will not fill the Estadio Azteca, all available seats have already been purchased.

How is Mexico doing in the Concacaf Qualifiers?

It is worth mentioning that Mexico is in third place in the Concacaf Qualifiers, with the same 21 points as the United States, which is second by goal difference; the leader is Canada with 24 points. For now, the three North American countries, which will host the 2026 World Cup, would be the qualifiers for Qatar 2022.

Behind them are Panama with 17 points and Costa Rica with 16, while El Salvador, Jamaica and Honduras are mathematically eliminated.
