President of Bayern Munich‘s Board of Directors, Oliver Kahn, has ruled the Bundesliga giants out of the race to sign Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.
The Portuguese is being linked with a handful of European clubs – from sides in England and Spain to Italy and France – and the German champions were one of the sides put forward as a possible destination for the forward after his request to leave Manchester United.
“As much as I admire Cristiano Ronaldo as a great, his signing would not be in line with our philosophy,” Kahn told Kicker.
Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was even more blunt when Cristiano‘s name was put to him in the last few days, simply responding to the suggestions with one word: “no”.
Bayern don’t tend to bid for players getting towards the end of their careers, and Cristiano Ronaldo is now 37 years old, having shown considerable signs of slowing down since leaving Real Madrid.
Lothar Matthaus, a German legend, did suggest that the idea of Cristiano playing for Bayern might be an appealing one, but it appears that the club have very different ideas.
