Every NBA fan’s mind was completely blown when Kevin Durant shockingly asked the Brooklyn Nets for a trade.

The former MVP made the decision to leave the team just a day after deciding on his contract with the team. The team is now forced to work frantically to put the pieces of their superteam back together.

The motivation behind Durant’s trade request is a major factor in the request’s shock value. The bizarre justifications of the Nets star were described in detail by Howard Beck in a piece for Sports Illustrated.

Durant was unhappy with the Nets’ chaotic season and the way the team handled Kyrie Irving, per his article.

“On the one hand, he is said to be disillusioned by the Nets’ disastrous season. On the other hand, he is said to be upset with the team’s stance toward Irving … who was the primary cause of the Nets’ disastrous season,” said Beck in the aforementioned SI article.

The Nets “disastrous” season

Irving’s refusal to get vaccination put the Nets’ season-long plans into serious disarray. Their overall performance suffered due to the guard’s adamant refusal to receive the vaccination during the regular season. His absence from practices may have also harmed the team’s chemistry.

But despite everything, it appears that Durant still supports his close friend. Perhaps there is information about the two Nets stars that we as outsiders are unaware of. Although their friendship is admirable, the Nets are currently suffering because of their bromance.

Built around Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden, the Nets’ superteam vision has always been more idealized than real. Durant wants to leave. Irvin wants to leave. Harden left several months ago.
