Manny Pacquiao will get back in the ring, but in an exhibition fight against Jaber Zayani. The French boxer was his sparring partner for his fight against Keith Thurman in 2019. The event will take place in Saudi Arabia in February 2023.
According to the Manila Times newspaper, the contract for the showcase is already formally signed. Earlier this week, the two met at the Senator’s house in Makati City.
“I personally negotiated with the senator, together with my team. After months of many talks, we agreed on a showdown for next year. He already signed his contract, so it’s all a done deal. We both promised each other to be very well prepared,” assured Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent.
Pacquiao retired in 2021 from professional boxing
Manny Pacquiao’s last fight was last August 21, 2021 against Cuban Yordenis Ugas, the Filipino took the defeat by unanimous decision and then announced his retirement from professional boxing.
Almost a year later people close to the Filipino announced the exhibition fight against Zayani.
“I will prepare the same way I train for a real fight,” Pacquiao said, while previously making it clear that the days of sanctioned fights in the paid professional ranks for the fighter-turned-politician are over.
In his career, Manny Pacquiao won world titles at flyweight, super bantamweight, featherweight, super featherweight, lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight and super welterweight.
Pacquiao combined the gloves with politics, being elected congressman in 2010 and then senator in 2016, then unsuccessfully aspired to the presidency of his country this 2022.
