Aurelien Djani Tchouameni (Rouen, 2000) has officially moved from Monaco to Real Madrid for a fee of around 100 million euros, including variables.

The player, a France international, has joined Los Blancos on a five-year deal and becomes Real Madrid‘s second signing for next season after Antonio Rudiger, who joined from Chelsea on a free transfer.

Real Madrid, who had Tchouameni on their radar since last year, reignited their interest after Kylian Mbappe‘s refusal to sign earlier this summer.

The significant financial outlay that Real Madrid were going to make for the Paris Saint-Germain star forced them to postpone their plans for the arrival of the midfielder, who was then looking at offers from Liverpool and PSG themselves.

But Real Madrid returned with a call at the end of May, and Tchouameni made it clear that he wanted to join the European champions, and Monaco cooperated.

He knew where he wanted to play, and not even Mbappe nor Jurgen Klopp‘s attempts to tempt him away from Spain could change his mind.

With Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde, Real Madrid believe they have a succession plan in place for their midfield of Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modric, who are still going to remain important in the team.

Real Madrid’s fourth most expensive signing

With a fixed transfer fee of 80 million euros, Tchouameni is already the fourth most expensive player in Real Madrid‘s history, behind only Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eden Hazard.

He arrives, as a result, with star status. But that doesn’t mean he’ll be a guaranteed inclusion in Carlo Ancelotti‘s XI next season, and will likely be in and out of the team.

What can Tchouameni offer Real Madrid?

The idea is that the Frenchman has come in to occupy the same position as Casemiro.

He is a box-to-box player, capable of having an impact all over the pitch. He is player with great tactical awareness, and he has good technique and ball control.

In France he has been compared with Paul Pogba, although he seems to have a better sense of the game than the departing Manchester United man, rarely making a bad decision.

This past 2021/22 season, he made 50 appearances between his team and the national team, scoring five goals and providing three assists.
