Toni Kroos has spilled the beans on Real Madrid’s celebrations as they were crowned champions of La Liga last weekend, revealing a savoury surprise that added flavour to their sweet triumph.

Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham, and Champions League semi-final hero Joselu all got on the scoresheet for Los Blancos in a 3-0 win over Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu last Saturday, with the pressure left all on rivals Barcelona to beat Girona later in the evening to keep the title race going.

And at the fiery Municipal de Montilivi, the pressure took its toll as La Blaugrana succumbed to a 4-2 loss, igniting scenes of jubilation, and the aroma of hot dogs, in Madrid’s camp.

On his Einfach Mal Luppen podcast, Kroos revealed: “We won our game and, when Barcelona went 2-1 up, I was going to go home, but everyone told me to stay. Five minutes later they lost 4-2. We were all eating hot dogs – not leaving was a great decision.

“It was all quite crazy because Girona could have also gone 7-2 ahead. We celebrated a little, but not too much.

“It is once again the feeling of having achieved something great. However, the season was so clear that it took away some of the excitement at the end. It is clear that, if I had been able to draw the scene, I would have preferred not to experience it in front of a TV. But it doesn’t matter, combining it with a Barca defeat was doubly good.”

With his contract up in the summer, it has been reported that Kroos is still undecided about whether he’ll extend with Madrid.

The 34-year-old was seen lingering on the vacant Santiago Bernabeu pitch after their victory against Bayern Munich on Wednesday – during which he shone brightly – fuelling speculation about a potential farewell on a significant Champions League night.
