Sadio Mane looks set to have played his last game for Liverpool, with his words after the Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid sounding very much like a goodbye.
The Senegal international still has a year to run on his contract at Anfield, but has been heavily linked with a summer move to Bayern Munich.
“I would like to thank the fans for everything and the coach too. I wish this team all the best in the world,” said Mane after the game on Saturday.
Just days earlier, the 30-year-old had said he would give an answer on his future after the final. Perhaps we already have it.
The Bayern option
German champions Bayern have been reported to be very keen on Mane.
There is still nothing official one way or the other, but Mane seems to be looking to life beyond Liverpool.
On Sunday, May 29, the journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that the forward is looking to depart the Reds.
“Sadio Mane has decided to leave Liverpool this summer,” he tweeted.
“He’s ready for a new experience after many special years with Reds – it will be confirmed to the club.
“FC Bayern are strong contenders – but it’s still open and not completed as Sadio wanted to wait for the final.”
With his contract up next summer, Liverpool would likely prefer to sell Mane now, rather than lose him for nothing in a year’s time.
