The Pittsburgh Steelers have a winning tradition of many decades, so seeing them at the bottom of the AFC North is unusual and the demand is to change things immediately, Mitchell Trubisky has suffered being the first torch reliever after the end of the Ben Roethlisberger era in the “Terrible Towels” team, so Kenny Pickett‘s turn has come.
According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has settled on rookie Pickett to be the team’s starting quarterback for the first time in his career when this team visits the Buffalo Bills in Week 5 of the 2022 NFL season.
How did Kenny Pickett come to the Steelers?
Pickett was the only quarterback taken in the first round of the last Draft (20 overall) coming right out of the University of Pittsburgh and after great preseason performances, fans of the team that has hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy six times (highest total tied with the New England Patriots) wanted to see him as the starter in Week 1, however, that date has been pushed back about a month.
The Steelers are at the bottom of their division with a 1-3 record, riding a streak of three consecutive losses, the latest of which to the New York Jets resulted in the decision to bench Trubisky in favor of Pickett, who suffered three interceptions.

However, the hope for a better future with Pickett under center is backed by legendary Steelers receiver Hines Ward, who in an interview with Rob Maaddi of The Associated Press, commented that he sees the same winning look in Pickett as he saw in “Big Ben” in the huddle, recalling that Ward and Roethlisberger won Super Bowls XL and XLIII together, with the receiver being MVP in the first of the two aforementioned NFL Championship Games.
