Former New England Patriots cornerback and Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday via a touching Instagram post.

In the eight-minute video, McCourty’s wife and children narrate his life and career.

The clip ends with McCourty thanking God, his family, teammates, coaches, NFL organizations and fans for making his career ‘special.’

I look forward to the future, to new beginnings, to new opportunities and to a little bit of free time to be able to drive my wife and kids crazy,” McCourty said. “You guys will be hearing from me in the future.

“I’m always gonna be moving forward, keeping that growth midnset. And once again, thank you guys all. It’s been one hell of a journey. Thank you.”

McCourty, 34, joins Las Vegas Raiders lineman Richie Incognito in announcing his retirement one day after four-time All-Pro offensive tackle Mitchell Schwartz did the same.

Incognito, Schwartz announce NFL retirement

Incognito, 39, wrote a letter to Raiders fans detailing how injuries are forcing him to retire.

“I’ve dealt with injuries the last two years I never had before in my career,” Incognito wrote. “My body told me it was time, and I knew I was ready to hang them up. And though some in my inner circle might not believe me – I’m ready. There’s no turning back.”

Incognito, who had a controversial start to his career, played in just two games throughout the past two seasons.

Schwartz, 33, also credited injuries in a social media post on Thursday for having to retire.

He didn’t play last season after the Kansas City Chiefs released him last March.

Schwartz, who had back surgery last February, saw his 2020 NFL season end abruptly due to injury, snapping a streak of 134 consecutive starts.
