For Trevor Reed, a retired Marine who was released from a Russian prison last April, he believes the White House has not done enough to bring Brittney Griner home.
Reed was released after negotiations with the Kremlin in a prisoner exchange.
The Russians took back Konstantin Yaroshenko, who some media describe as a drug trafficker. Yaroshenko was in prison for more than two years.
Speaking about Griner, Reed believes that the government has the power to get the WNBA out of the Russian prison.
“I can’t say 100 percent what the White House is or is not doing – that’s obviously not public information,” Reed said on Hallie Jackson NOW.
“But, in my opinion, the White House has the ability to get them out extremely fast, and they clearly have chosen not to do that. So no, in my opinion, they’re not doing enough.”
Despite subtle criticism of the current administration in regards to Griner, Reed was grateful for what it did for him in his case.
“I think that that was the ethical decision, and I think that they did the right thing. [Biden] ultimately makes that decision – that decision has to come from the top,” he said.
“And, you know, I’m grateful for that. And I appreciate that. But I think that, you know, he has the responsibility to continue doing the right thing.”
