Toni Freixa, former Barcelona board member, has taken a swipe at the club’s supposed transfer plans this summer, insisting that the big names they are pursuing will not be signed.

Barcelona have been linked with a number of players, most notably Robert Lewandowski, Bernardo Silva, and Raphinha, but financial concerns still have them hamstrung when it comes to making signings.

“You know that Lewandowski, Kounde, Raphinha, and Bernardo Silva will not come [to Barcelona]? You know that, don’t you?” Freixa‘s tweet read.

Laporta and Barcelona’s “economic levers”

Freixa‘s Twitter post was a clear shot at Joan Laporta‘s management of Barcelona, though the president believes that signings can be made.

“Soon you will have news about the economic levers. In principle there will be two or three deals done to give us funds, repay the debt and make investments to make our teams more competitive,” said Laporta.

Toni Freixa: Barcelona are selling smoke

Speaking to Cadena COPE’s El Partidazo, Freixa went further.

“I don’t buy the talk of Barcelona‘s signings,” Freixa said. “They are blatantly selling smoke. What they say clashes with reality and I have no choice but to warn people that this is not going to happen.

“One could come in case a player is sold. It sells much more to say that Bernardo Silva is coming. If we want to sell the bike, let’s sell it, I don’t buy it.

“I’m going a bit against the tide, what is convenient now at Barcelona is to generate an illusion.”
