Brittney Griner and wife Cherelle celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary last Saturday and the couple’s plan was to have an agreed phone conversation despite the incarceration of the famous WNBA Phoenix Mercury player, however, according to Cherelle’s own statements, this conversation never happened.

This Monday, through her attorney, Cherelle released an even more dramatic story, as it turns out that Brittney tried to make a dozen calls to the number that had been provided to her by the U.S. Embassy so that she could then make the phone call to Phoenix so that the expected conversation could take place, however, no one was in the office and therefore no one answered the phone.

“I was distracted. I was hurt. I was done, fed up,” Cherelle Griner said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I’m pretty sure I texted BG’s agent and was like: ‘I don’t want to talk to anybody. It’s going to take me a minute to get my emotions together and just tell everybody I’m unavailable right now. Because it just knocked me out. I wasn’t well, I’m still not well.”
At first, Cherelle suspected that it was the Russian government that prevented the conversation from taking place, however, the reality has made her even angrier, as the omission of the U.S. Embassy was something impossible to anticipate.
No confidence in the work of the U.S. Government.
In public, the U.S. Government has said it is working flat out to bring back the WNBA star, however, this incident has made Brittney Griner’s wife doubt that this is real.
“I find it unacceptable and I have zero trust in our government right now. If I can’t trust you to catch a Saturday call outside of business hours, how can I trust you to actually be negotiating on my wife’s behalf to come home? Because that’s a much bigger ask than to catch a Saturday call.”
