The quarter-final between the Netherlands and Argentina had its fair share of drama. Louis Van Gaal’s side managed a last gasp equalizer in the 101st minute of stoppage time, taking the game to extra time.

Tension was extremely high and there was a confrontation between Messi and the Dutch striker Weghorst at the end of the game. The PSV striker spoke in the mixed zone post-match and addressed the clash he had with Messi.

“I wanted to give him my hand after the match. I have a lot of respect for him as a player but he smashed my hand away and did not want to talk to me. My Spanish is not very good but they were disrespectful words and I’m really disappointed”, explained the dutchman after the game.

There was also an incident between Messi and Louis Van Gaal. The Argentinian confronted the Netherlands manager after the penalty shootout and the two appeared to have a small scuffle.
