The Oscars 2022 ceremony, the moment of Will Smith’s slap to Chris Rock for mentioning his wife Jada Pinkett Smith overshadowed absolutely everything else that happened during the 94th Academy Awards, however, apparently this incident will not have a police trace.

According to a Los Angeles Police Department report in an investigation by Variety, Chris Rock waived his right to file a police report for the aforementioned incident in which Smith was angered by a joke he considered in poor taste in which he made fun of his wife’s lack of hair.

The LAPD statement

“LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program,” LAPD said in a statement. “The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report.”

The incident occurred when Chris Rock presented the award for Best Documentary, in his speech the comedian made a joke in which he compared Jada to Demi Moore who shaved her hair to play in the 1997 film “G.I. Jane“, saying that Pinkett Smith could be the lead actress in “G.I. Jane 2“, Will Smith’s wife suffers from alopecia, which is abnormal hair loss, a synonym for baldness.

After that comment, the Best Actor winner for his work in King Richard got up from his seat and slapped Chris Rock on stage hard and angrily told him to “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!

Denzel Washington helped calm Will Smith down

After the commercial break, Denzel Washington grabbed Will Smith and offered the following advice, “At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you.”
