Bradford police seized £50,000 from four unemployed men as they searched them for drugs.

The men have since been arrested on suspicion of conspiring to supply class A drugs after officers stopped a car in Tong Street at around 8.30pm on January 8.

The car was stopped and the four men were spoken to separately – and all provided a different account of their journey.

Officers searched the car and discovered around £50,000 underneath a seat which they say none of the men could account for. The money and the phones belonging to the men were seized for examination.

West Yorkshire Police said they have been released on bail under the condition that they do not contact each other. They also have to comply with a 7pm to 7am curfew while the investigation continues.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police – Bradford South posted on its Facebook page: “Officers from BD South NPT T2 were at it again on the evening of 8th January.

“At around 8.30pm the officers sighted a vehicle from out of the force area with four males inside travelling along TONG STREET. The vehicle was stopped and the four males were spoken to individually. They all provided differing accounts about their journey and were searched in relation to drugs offences.

“Inside the vehicle a large amount of cash, approximately £50,000 was found underneath the seat which rather surprisingly the four unemployed male occupants could not account for! The four males were arrested for conspiring to supply class A drugs and possessing criminal property. The cash and phones were seized for examination.

“The four males have been released on bail with conditions not to contact each and to observe a 7pm to 7am curfew while the investigation continues.

“This is a really good proactive vehicle stop by the team, thank you for your support and information, we cannot do the job we do without it!”

The post was shared with an image of the money and received praise for the officers. One social media user cheekily posted: “Liked and shared hope I win.”
