Argentina’s loss against Saudi Arabia during their Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup debut has not only left them with a complicated future in their group, but it has also denied them the opportunity to continue piling up games without defeat and end their streak at 36 games, just one shy of the all-time record of 37 matches that Italy holds.

Argentina wanted to set a new undefeated record at Qatar 2022

Argentina’s 36 games without defeat are just second to Italy’s 37 undefeated games in a row, the Italian team’s streak happened between October 2018 and October 2021, coincidentally after losing that game they had a debacle that included them not qualifying for the World Cup.

Argentina’s last win was against an Arab country

Prior to their World Cup debut, Argentina faced the United Arab Emirates in a friendly match, trying to have a similar opponent as the one they would face in Saudi Arabia.

The difference was that on that match they won easily with a 5-0 scoreboard, with many suggesting that was happening as well today, against a Saudi Arabian team that shocked the world and tripped one of the top contenders in this World Cup.
