The Brooklyn Nets claim they knew Ben Simmons needed to time to get reacquainted with regular NBA playing time. But the Australian forward has been underperforming at the level for any NBA starter, let a lone a three-time NBA All-Star.
Ben Simmons was the 4th player with most minutes (37) in the Nets home loss against the Dallas Mavericks (129-125). For the fifth consecutive time, he once again failed to cross the 7-point barrier in scoring and finished the game with an underwhelming 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 points.

Simmons’ lack of confidence was on total display during the 1st quarter of play. The Nets’ starting guard received a pass at the top of the key when he was wide open and managed to air ball a layup when he was barely guarded. The embarassing gaffe was all too symbolic of Simmons struggles and the now 1-5 Brooklyn Nets.
Meanwhile, head coach Steve Nash has been supportive of Simmons, assuring he “can shoot as much as he needs to”. While teammate Kyrie Irving, who was seen screaming at the Australian to shoot during their last loss against the Bucks, said he’s “not Superman, give him (expletive) time.”
Seth Curry could be available soon
The Nets could soon have an option available to not have to rely so much on Simmons. Guard Seth Curry, who has been recovering from ankle surgery, is now practicing with the Nets’ G League team. Head coach Steve Nash said Curry is getting closer to playing and could be back with Nets as soon as this weekend.
