Almost five years have passed since Floyd Mayweather took on and defeated Conor McGregor in the boxing ring and now there is talk of a revenge fight, even if it wouldn’t count as a professional one.

In the view of UFC legend Chael Sonnen, the two fighters have spoken to each other, yet the negotiations aren’t normal.

“Look, I’m sure that Conor and Floyd have made contact with one another,” he said on his YouTube channel.

“Every idea starts somewhere, and you got to kind of get it going, but if you and a guy are talking, that’s the one thing that you make sure that nobody knows.

“If you and a guy talk, you go work out a deal. And you decide you’re going to go to the public or you’re going to go to the promoter.

“Absolutely nobody can know that you and that guy have spoken ever. That would be very weird. That would be a huge letdown.”

Will there be a Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather 2?

Their previous meeting took place the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas in August 2017 and Mayweather won by technical knockout in the 10th round.

That extended his professional boxing record to 50-0, while it was his last professional bout.

Since then, Mayweather has been taking part in exhibition fights and he has taken on a variety of different opponents.

There is a chance he could set up a new exhibition fight with McGregor, although the Irishman’s priority for now is to get his UFC career back on track.
