Fede Valverde has hit the ground running in this first stretch of the season for Real Madrid. Despite Los Blancos boasting various talented midfielders, the Uruguay international has managed to stand out with his performances, relying on his physique and peace of mind.

The Real Madrid midfielder has been working on his state of mind, considering concentration a key aspect that could lead to success.

Fede’s mental work

After scoring away at Elche on Wednesday, Valverde celebrated by taking a meditation position. He didn’t do it to imitate Erling Haaland, or show that he is a yoga enthusiast.

This celebration was in line with his motto: ‘A sound mind in a sound body’. Valverde has focused all his efforts on making sure that his mind performs to perfection despite the high demands at Real Madrid, where competition is enormous.

“Calm. We have to keep working,” Valverde wrote on Twitter, where he posted a picture of his celebration.

Fede Valverde: An all-round midfielder and scorer

After the Clasico against Barcelona, Toni Kroos tweeted that Valverde is one of the top three midfielders worldwide.

The Uruguayan has worked with a sports psychologist, who has helped him show glimpses of his potential this season.

Valverde has been given a boost in confidence and he is now able to work better in preparation for matches, developing his anticipation and decision-making.

The results speak for themselves. Despite not being a forward, Valverde has shone at both ends of the pitch. He has already scored six goals in all competitions, which is as many as Karim Benzema and only one fewer than the team’s top scorer, Vinicius Junior.

It seems certain that Carlo Ancelotti was right when he told Valverde that he had to score more than 10 goals.

“If you think of a modern inside player, you only think of him,” the Italian coach said on Wednesday.
